Here is the story of my life....
I make fun of someone or some situation, and then God laughs at me and puts me in that same situation....I SHOULD have learned my lesson by now, but apparently I still have A LOT TO LEARN! It all started when I thought it was ridiculous when people met someone and got married in a few weeks. How dumb can you be? Well Riley and I got engaged a mere 5 weeks after our first date. We got married 5 months later....DUMB! I know. But I did it. Then who thinks that getting prego right after you are married is a good idea? Not me! 3 months after we were married we found out we were pregnant with Ava. Then we moved into my parents house for a few months after our lease ended at our apartment and while we were waiting to move to Rexburg. Living with your parents? WHAT LOSERS! I'm 29 years old, finally just graduated from college, with a Bachelor's degree...not a Masters or PhD...no no. My kids have runny noses and don't always sit perfectly still at church like I was totally sure they would! SO pretty much everything that I have ever said I will NOT do, or will NEVER happen to me has. Why would this pattern end now? God has laughed again, and is sending us to Utah! Here's the story....
Riley had the job offer in Maryland for the Department of Defense. We were excited for an East Coast adventure. We sold our bed, dressers, desks, table, etc. in preparation for a light trek east. We dreamed and talked of all the fun things we could do, and what trip we would take every weekend. We dreamed of summer weeks spent at the coast as a family, and trips to the DC temple. We were THRILLED!
Because the job required a pretty hefty security clearance, we didn't have a start date or anything and wouldn't until all that went through. What if something happened and we ended up without a job? Not realistic, but could happen...So Riley went down to the Job Fair at BYU in Provo. We were just being extra cautious and careful. We thought we were being so smart, and preparing well for our future.
Riley called me that night on the way home from Provo and said that he had made some really great contacts, and was impressed with this particular company...however, this company was located in OREM, UTAH of all places. We talked a little more, and right when I hung up the phone I couldn't help but cry. I HATE UTAH! No offense to anyone who lives in Utah. I lived there for a year when I was 23, and it was one of the hardest years of my life. I left Utah the day after graduating from Beauty School and never intended to go back....EVER!
Fast forward a year, and I married a guy from Utah...fast forward 6 years and I am now moving to Utah....
At first Riley and I thought no amount of money can make us move to Utah! We were really against the idea, but then as time went on we thought more about the opportunity that it would be and the good things about it. Then they sent Riley and email that said...Oh by the way you get an iPhone4, iPad, MacBook Pro, iMac, and they just went on and on and on.... Its like they knew exactly what would make my husband think twice. They hit the sweetest spot they could have! I read the email first, and just laughed. I told Riley to check the email, he might like what it said. That was it! I knew it was done deal. haha Just kidding. Although Riley is excited for those gadgets, they weren't THAT important...Right, Riley? We were doing what is best for our family....right? :) It is a really great opportunity and Riley will be doing what he loves and getting some great experience. I am getting use to the idea, although it is still surreal. There are many great things about Utah. Erin, my roomy from college lives down there. We can afford a nice house with a garage! It was hard to find garages in Baltimore. (May seem like a stretch for a pro, but I really want a garage!) And if we don't like it, we can move away while our kids are still young and not too scared by the Utah experience. haha!
We are really grateful for this opportunity to be real life adults, instead of just posing as college students our whole lives! So...here we go! Well be moving in 6 weeks!

Oh man, I know EXACTLY how you feel! Zane and I about cried when we got a job in Utah and were more than happy to move to his project in Idaho 6 weeks later. :) lol. Good luck, and I'm sure it will be awesome!
I am so glad Erin is there! :) Plus, when my son has a massive diarrhea explosion in the airplane bathroom and needs clothes brought to him in the Salt Lake Airport so he doesn't have to wear an oversized shirt with no pants, you will be there to save us again!!! :) (Seriously, I hope it never comes to that EVER again.) Glad you'll be relatively close though. And garages really really really are fabulous. Seriously.
The garage would have sealed the deal for me too!!! I am sure you guys are making the right decision and I am glad that we will be closer.
Take 2 in UT will be better I'm SURE!! Be careful...you may be balling your eyes out begging Riley not to make you move from UT in 5 years. :) BEST of luck!
Sometimes the best choice is the hardest one. I've had to make a few of those in the last couple of years. Hopefully peace and assurance come to you quickly and you two can move confidently knowing you made the right decision.
Exciting news! I know I feel the same way about a garage too! Not that I have one but a girl can dream:)
Hey our favorite neighbors ever! I hate Utah too! But will probably end up there for Travis's Masters! So what can you do!
Im a Utah hater too...One huge plus is that you will have babysitters! Lots of dates to be had! And that house with the garage will be nice too! Good luck Crebs family! I know on FB I went on and on about how i lived there once...totally forgot we went to the same school and that you hated it too. LOL. Blame it on pregnancy brain. Hopefully this time is btter....maybe since you have a family with you it will force you to love it.

So we were dreaming of visiting you in Baltimore, but we are so happy that you feel good about your decision...we were just talking today about those life choices that seem illogical, but really are the right decision...we've made a few. We love you guys and hopefully will get to see you more often this way.
Congratulations on the job Riley!!! I am with you on the Utah feelings but I felt the same way about POST FALLS! and now we live here and love it! GOoh luck with everything! and o happy we are more likely to see you in Utah rather than Maryland.
(the gadgets would have sold Chris too:)
That is very exciting! The same dang thing happened to me. I told Kevin I would live ANYWHERE but Utah. DING DING DING. We've been here 2 year. It's where the job is and it pays well. So what can you do? We don't live that far from Orem if you need a friend! I know I could always use one!
Oh man... good luck! I hope it ends up being an awesome move, and you're happy in spite of the state! LOL! You can do it! :-)
I know what you mean about UTAH! Jon and I both said the same thing growing up and I married and Idaho boy and he got the best job offer down here. So here we are! Hey, but now we get to be closer!! Utah haters unite, in Utah...maybe we'll love it sooner than later! :-)
I'm excited for you guys and glad to help you find your dream home down here! Let us know if you need help! We aren't too far away!
aw, life sure can throw you little curve balls. I love this story, you two are such great examples that life doesn't always go the way you planned and that is absolutely ok! I wish you guys the best on your Utah journey! :)
